POLITICS ABOUT THE USE OF TOOLS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN AIEM

At AIEM we are committed to scientific integrity and ethics when using artificial intelligence (AI) in research in Mathematics Education.

This document establishes guidelines on the appropriate use of AI tools for people involved in the editorial process at our journal: authors, reviewers, and editors.

Authors

Statement of use

The use of AI for the autonomous creation of part or all of the manuscripts submitted for review is not permitted. Authors are responsible for ensuring the authorship of the text.

Authors must declare explicitly the use of any AI tool in the creation, design, writing, or analysis of manuscripts. The software used, the functions applied, and the parts of the manuscript where it was used must be specified. This declaration should be included in a dedicated section of the manuscript entitled “Declaration on the Use of Artificial Intelligence,” located before the references section.

It is not necessary to declare the use of AI tools for text correction or typos as well as to ensure the absence of grammatical and spelling errors.

The use of AI for the autonomous creation of text that replaces the intellectual work of the authors is not permitted. The authors are responsible for ensuring the authorship of the text.

Responsibility for originality and possible errors

The authors are ultimately responsible for their work and must ensure the originality of the content generated or assisted by AI. The generated material must not infringe on the rights of third parties or plagiarize existing content.

Authors must maintain a critical stance towards information provided by AI tools and rigorously verify any content incorporated into the manuscript.

The authors are responsible for any erroneous or incomplete information generated by AI, as well as for any biases in the research. For example, we know that AI can generate references that do not exist or that do not correspond to the ideas being supported.

Reviewers

The reviewers must declare explicitly the non-use of any AI tools during manuscript review. This declaration will be made on the platform, the journal evaluation form.

The use of AI could compromise the intellectual property rights of the authors of the manuscripts, the confidentiality of personal data, and global regulations protecting them.

Consequences of noncompliance by the authors

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the withdrawal of the manuscript from AIEM, even if it has already been accepted or published, as well as other editorial measures that the journal deems appropriate in accordance with its ethical standards.
